Finding Public Record Resources

One of the problems most people have when looking for details about someone is finding out where to go to actually find the information. In a previous article, Gathering your starting information for a background check or people search, we demonstrated how to use a search engine such as Google to find out some basic, public information about an individual. In some of our later articles, including Gathering your starting information for a background check or people search - Part 2, Detailed property search and property tax information, Finding real estate and property tax information, we used other websites to help find the information we were looking for. That leads to the question at hand: How did we know what website(s) to use? Where do you look to find public record websites? This article will try to answer those questions.

To help find resources for our searches we most often use these three resources:

1) Our own Public Record Search database

2) Public Record Resources, which, as the name implies, is a directory website that lists many public record resources available on the internet today.

3) iNet Investigation.com has an Investigative Resources Directory that list national as well as local\state public records resources.

It is much easier to use resources such as these to find other public record websites than it is to search for them manually using the search engines. While they won't always have what your looking for they are a good place to start.

Another resource we use often to find just about any kind of record is Net Detective. This isn't a free resource but for a one time fee of $29.00 you get the software plus 3 years of unlimited searches. This program can be a great time saver by sifting through the tons records and helping to narrow down your searches quickly and easily.

Unfortunately, it is not always easy to find free public records. Many times when your searching for background check information, public records, or other information of this type you will find that a lot of websites are trying to sell a service to gather this information for you instead of providing the details on how you can do it yourself. So if your interested in looking for this information on your own check out the resources we have mentioned above.
